You can access Client Benefits at no extra cost, when you have a Southern Cross Life & Living Insurance policy. It’s all so you and your loved ones can have additional support and professional advice when it’s needed.
These are additional benefits that sit outside of your policy, providing a financial contribution towards pre-approved appointments and services. You can apply for them for yourself, or the life assured and any dependent children.
To be eligible, all services must be related to a life event or events and are only for use by the individual experiencing the life event. Acceptance of a claim for a Client Benefit is at Chubb Life’s discretion. Evidence may be required to confirm eligibility.
You can apply to receive from a registered practitioner:
- specific nutritional advice
- fitness advice.
To be eligible, a medical referral is required. Information provided in the referral should relate only to the condition which is the subject of the medical referral. No other condition/s should be included.
You can claim for counselling services for assistance in relation to but not limited to, the following:
- anxiety
- depression
- anger management
- grief counselling
- diagnosis of a serious illness or injury
- stress
- parents with children who have special needs (e.g. ADHD, autism, cerebral palsy)
- children with special needs.
You can claim for the following general assistance:
- Legal assistance from a registered lawyer to prepare or update a will
- Career counselling
- Budgeting and small business financial advice e.g. writing a business plan.
- Employment- related advice for CV, career counselling and interview preparation. If you experience a career-related life event such as changing or losing a job.
You can claim for assistance with addiction to:
- smoking
- alcohol
- gambling
- drugs.

Client Benefits are provided by Chubb Life Insurance New Zealand Limited (Chubb Life), the underwriter and administrator of Southern Cross Life & Living Insurance policies. Following a life event, Chubb Life may contribute up to $300 for a pre-approved appointment for health, wellbeing and career advice services, and up to $1,000 towards legal services to prepare or update a will. Client Benefits are limited to a maximum of $1,000 (including GST) per person each policy year, across all Southern Cross Life & Living Insurance policies and other eligible Chubb Life policies where the person claiming the Client Benefit is the policy owner or the life assured, or a dependant of the policy owner or the life assured.

What is the timeframe to claim?
Any Client Benefits must be claimed for and the services used within 13 months of the life event occurring.
The yearly $1,000 Client Benefit allocation will begin each year on your policy anniversary date. If you have multiple policies with Chubb Life under which you are eligible for Client Benefits, it will begin from the anniversary date of your first eligible policy.
Any unused yearly Client Benefit allocation does not carry over to following years.
If you've already received payment under a Financial and Legal Advice Benefit as a benefit under your Southern Cross Life & Living Insurance or any other Chubb Life policy, you will not be eligible to receive a further payment for financial or legal advice under Client Benefits in the same policy year.

Who can access the Client Benefits?
Each of the policy owner, the life assured (if different to the policy owner) and their dependent children are entitled to the Client Benefits free of charge for holding a Southern Cross Life & Living Insurance policy for at least 90 days.

What is a life event?
A life event is defined as a substantial change and adjustment to an individual’s life. This includes, but is not limited to: marriage, divorce, serious illness or injury, purchasing a property, changing or losing a job, starting or restructuring a business, the birth of their child, being a victim of a criminal act, and natural disasters.
Client Benefits must be claimed for and received within 13 months of the life event occurring. Chubb Life may require you to provide evidence of the life event related to the Client Benefit you’re claiming for.

Can I use my own practitioner?
Yes, but the provider must be a registered practitioner, approved by Chubb Life and based in New Zealand.

Is there any eligibility criteria for Client Benefits?
You must be the policy owner or life assured, or a dependant of the policy owner or the life assured, of an in-force Southern Cross Life & Living Insurance policy to receive a Client Benefit. The policy must have been in-force for a minimum of 90 days and the policy premiums must not be in arrears.

Pre-approval and how to claim
- The services must be approved by Chubb Life before they are provided to the policy owner, life assured or dependant child.
- Once pre-approval is provided to the policy owner, life assured or dependant child, it's the responsibility of the policy owner or life assured to make an appointment and provide Chubb Life with the invoice.
- The policy owner and/or life assured must produce a GST invoice for the appointment in order for the claim to be paid by Chubb Life. Please ensure invoices are made out to Chubb Life Insurance NZ with a reference to the claimant’s name, policy number and service received.
- Client Benefits are approved at Chubb Life’s discretion.
- Chubb Life will not pay costs relating to missed appointments or appointments cancelled outside of the provider’s required timeframe.
Right to change
- Chubb Life reserves the right to change, remove or add coverage for the services available under the Client Benefits without notice.

- Chubb Life won't be liable for any loss (including, without limitation, indirect, special or consequential loss or loss of profits), expense, damage, personal injury or death which is suffered or sustained (whether or not arising from any person’s negligence) in connection with the services offered by the providers of these benefits or accepting or using any advice or service by any recipient, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law (in which case that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law).
