Southern Cross Life Insurance
Member Discount Terms and Conditions


  1. Southern Cross Life Insurance is provided and underwritten by Chubb Life Insurance New Zealand Limited (“Chubb Life”) and promoted and marketed by Southern Cross Insurance Services Limited (“Southern Cross”).
  2. This Member Discount is promoted by Southern Cross and administered by Chubb Life and Southern Cross.
  3. The Member Discount is a 10% discount on the life insurance premium, excluding any fixed rate loadings (see 6. below), for eligible lives insured under a Southern Cross Life Insurance policy. To be eligible for the Member Discount:
    1. the life insured, at the relevant time, must be covered under a health insurance policy with Southern Cross Medical Care Society, trading as Southern Cross Health Society (this includes where the life insured is covered under a policy taken out by a family member or where the policy is part of a work or an association scheme) a “Member”; and
    2. the policy owner must confirm to Chubb Life that the life insured is a Member.
    Note: all individuals covered under a Southern Cross health insurance policy will be named on a membership certificate.
  4. If the life insured:
    1. is a Member but does not confirm to Chubb Life that they are at the time of applying for the Southern Cross Life Insurance policy; or
    2. becomes a Member after taking out the Southern Cross Life Insurance policy,
    the policy owner can contact Chubb Life to confirm that the life insured is a Member. Subject to 11. below, the Member Discount will be applied to future premiums in accordance with 7. below.
  5. If the life insured is a Member but this is not confirmed to Chubb Life the Member should not expect the Member Discount to be applied to the policy.

How the Member Discount is applied

  1. A 10% discount will be applied to the premiums for the eligible life insured. This excludes any fixed rate loadings included in that premium. A fixed rate loading is where the premium has been increased by an additional amount per $1,000 of the life cover amount (per mille) due to the life insured’s health, medical history, occupation or leisure activities.
  2. If the life insured becomes a Member after taking out a Southern Cross Life Insurance policy and the policy owner confirms this to Chubb Life, the Member Discount will be applied to the policy no later than 15 business days after Chubb Life has been advised. The Member Discount will not be applied retrospectively to any premiums paid before the Member Discount is applied in accordance with this paragraph.
  3. The Member Discount will be noted on the policy summary for the life insured. If the life insured is eligible for the Member Discount but it is not noted as having been applied, the policy owner should contact Chubb Life on 0800 000 200.
  4. Subject to these terms and conditions, the Member Discount will continue for the duration of the life insurance policy. If the life insured ceases to be a Member, Chubb Life reserves the right to remove the Member Discount from future premiums on giving 30 days’ notice to the policy owner.

General

  1. The Member Discount is non-transferable and not redeemable for cash. This Member Discount does not provide any person with any right to offset or to claim any deduction of any kind against Southern Cross or Chubb Life. 
  2. Chubb Life and Southern Cross reserve the right to change or withdraw these terms and conditions at any time. If a change to these terms and conditions will impact the Member Discount already applied to a policy, Chubb Life will provide at least 30 days’ notice of the change to the policy owner.
  3. Southern Cross and Chubb Life comply with the Privacy Act 2020.
